Dental implants: A permanent tooth replacement solution for Franklin area patients

Tooth implant. Dental concept. Human teeth or dentures.
Tooth implant. Dental concept. Human teeth or dentures. Dental implants are a remarkable advance in the field of dentistry. Until the advent of implants, dentists had no way to replace the root of a missing tooth. Dental implants now make it possible to provide a replacement tooth that looks, feels, and functions like your own. K&E Advanced Dentistry offers dental implants for patients in Franklin, Ohio and surrounding communities.

Dental implants have three parts. The first part is the titanium implant body which serves as the tooth root. Bone fuses with the implant over the course of three to six months. After this occurs, we place the second and third parts – a post (abutment) that holds your replacement tooth (a dental crown). We can also secure a bridge, partial denture, or complete denture with several implants.

Dental implants are changing the way people live:

  • They help the patient regain the ability to eat virtually anything that they did with their natural teeth.
  • Provides the comfort and confidence of a natural tooth.
  • Permanent solution for patients who struggle with dentures.

  • A dental implant is an artificial root that replaces a missing tooth.
  • Dental implants are made up of three different parts. It is an artificial root that contains apartments. It connects to the crown, and it is screw into the implant.
  • The best thing about an implant is that you can floss in between them and other teeth just like your own teeth.
  • With good oral health habits, the replacement can last for many years.

Single dental implant

A dental implant is surgically inserted into the jawbone, below the gum line. A healing cap is then positioned on top of the implant for the duration of the healing process. When healing is complete (typically within three to six months) a permanent abutment is affixed to the dental implant. A crown, made by a professional dental lab to match your existing teeth, is cemented onto the abutment. The tooth has now been replaced without disturbing healthy adjacent teeth, and risk of bone loss is virtually eliminated.

A dental implant can be used to replace a missing tooth at any location in the mouth so long as there is enough bone at that site. If there is insufficient bone, a bone graft can be performed to assist in regeneration of lost tissues, so that a dental implant can be placed safely, and the desired esthetic result is achieved to make the implant look like a natural tooth.

Multiple implants

Traditional options for replacement of multiple missing teeth include partial dentures and dental bridges. However, a bridge requires reduction of adjacent teeth, and a partial denture places stress on nearby teeth. Dental implants can be used to replace multiple teeth without compromising healthy dentition.

As with single tooth replacement, these dental implants are placed in the bone below the gum line, and protected with healing caps. Meanwhile, a bridge is fabricated at a dental lab, customized to match your natural teeth. When healing is complete, abutments are attached to the dental implants. In the final step, the custom bridge is cemented onto the permanent abutments. With this method, a series of missing teeth is replaced without damaging healthy teeth next to them, and the implants stimulate healthy bone mass.

Implant supported dentures

A full or partial denture may be secured with four to six dental implants, for dramatic improvement in stability and function. Please visit the Dentures page of this website to learn more about permanent and removable options for implant-retained dentures.
